I’m an integrative counsellor which means I use different approaches for different people – because you are unique. I combine psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches through Petruska Clarkson’s integrative model of counselling and psychotherapy. I’d tailor the way I work with you depending on what you find useful.
I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is the most important aspect of counselling. So I will support you to explore how you relate to me as your counsellor. This can help you to more clearly see how you relate to other people in your life.
“The true opposite of depression is neither gaiety nor absence of pain, but vitality – the freedom to experience spontaneous feelings. It is part of the kaleidoscope of life that these feelings are not only happy, beautiful, or good but can reflect the entire range of human experience, including envy, jealousy, rage, disgust, greed, despair, and grief. But this freedom cannot be achieved if its childhood roots are cut off. Our access to the true self is possible only when we no longer have to be afraid of the intense emotional world of early childhood. Once we have experienced and become familiar with this world, it is no longer strange and threatening.”
Alice Miller, Swiss psychoanalyst
“It’s the relationship that heals.”
Irvin Yalom, American existential psychiatrist
